Different ways of high-altitude adaptation among Ethiopians (2nd part)

After a short break I will emphasize this entry on vascular adaptations and cerebral circulation as well among Among Amharas and Oromos. I will summarize the study with a new Issue of the Altitude Collection Infographics.

Different ways of high-altitude adaptation among Ethiopians (1st part)

I will summarize in the upcoming two entries two different ways of altitude lifelong adaptation among Ethiopian native highlanders, corresponding to Amhara highlanders living in the Simien Mountains of northern Ethiopia and the Oromos living in the Bale Mountains of southern Ethiopia. The review article has been written by professor Ayecheu Getu and can be readed at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9033342/

The second scientific expedition in the Andean territory (1st part)

In this entry I will basically summarize the reports from professors McFarland, Dill, Christensen, and Edwards, who travelled to Chilean Andes in 1935 and reported some interesting findings about arterial gases in humans who were residing or acclimatized at high- and extreme-altitude. In this issue I address the article published in Comparative Physiology in 1937 focus on the effects of rapid ascents by airplane and train.

CARDIAC ADAPTATION TO ACUTE AND CHRONIC HYPOXIA (2nd part)

In the second part I will address the cardiac adaptation from different altitude populations (Himalayan and Andean) and also there will be hightlighted the cardiac differences between genders, ending up with the cardiac contribution to exercise capacity in hypoxia.

CARDIAC ADAPTATION TO ACUTE AND CHRONIC HYPOXIA (1st part)

I want to apologize to readers because of the delay in publishing this entry, but I have suffered from severe bronchitis without further complications followed by flu symptoms with high fever. All and all, I have been over 25 days suffering health issues. Thus, I hope no more healthy setbacks throughout the entire year. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this new blog content from a brilliant review written by American cardiologists (Williams, Levine & Stembridge) published at the Journal of Physiology in 2022 (open access https://physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1113/JP281724).
